Many from among us Gonds staying in the forests and hills prepare new land and are doing farming. Due to the Government’s orders, preparing new land had reduced. Crops such as cotton, jowar millet, tur dhal (lentils), soya, green gram, black gram, long beans, lehe jonna, (another kind of millet), foxtail millet, etc. are grown.
Having gone to the money-lenders in order to do farming, due to [them] taking interest money, many of our Gonds are being deceived. Having put interest upon interest, they take away the whole harvest. With the little bit left over they will drink and finish off the money by doing worthless things.
